Charles (Chuck) Platto

Member, Mediators + More

CHUCK PLATTO was a long time insurance/litigation partner at Cahill Gordon & Reindel in New York, and chair of the International Litigation Committee of the International Bar Association, who left New York in the nineties to become a small town “country” lawyer in Vermont. Over the next decade, his country law practice evolved into a national boutique insurance law firm. Chuck returned to New York in 2007 to head the insurance practice of a well-known regional firm, and in recent years has become a full time domestic and international commercial arbitrator and mediator with a concentration in the insurance field.  In 2013 he was retained as a consultant to the American Arbitration Association to train all mediators for the AAA Superstorm insurance mediation programs for New York and New Jersey, and served himself as a mediator in more than 50 Sandy mediations. Chuck is a vice chair of the ABA Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee, and a member of the Editorial Board of the Insurance Litigation Reporter (Thomson/Reuters) and has written several books, chapters and many articles in the insurance field. He has been named to the list of New York Super Lawyers for Insurance Coverage since 2010. He is currently adjunct professor of Insurance Law at Fordham Law School a post he has held for several years, following prior appointments as an adjunct professor at NYU and Vermont Law Schools.
