Peter J. Bernbaum

PETER BERNBAUM is a mediator and corporate attorney with more than thirty five years of experience representing clients in complex business, contract and transactional matters. Mr. Bernbaumís corporate background includes extensive work with clients in the cable, broadcast television, and new media industries.

Mr. Bernbaumís media clients have included some of the largest cable television operators and major broadcast and satellite networks in the United States. In the early days of the cable industry, he represented many of the cable industryís pioneers as they were building the initial network of cable systems throughout the United States. As an in-house attorney at Warner-Amex Cable Communications (now Time Warner, Inc.) he was counsel to some of the cable industryís initial projects for interactive programming and for shop-at-home and music video networks. Mr. Bernbaum also served as outside counsel to NBC, CNBC, MSNBC and NBC Desktop where he worked directly with senior management on the launch of several major cable networks and on projects to create and distribute targeted Internet and broadband services to business and financial clients.

Mr. Bernbaum has served as lead counsel to complete the purchase and sale of numerous cable and media properties and also represents clients in the negotiation of complex retransmission consent and programming content and affiliation agreements. Since 1992, Mr. Bernbaum has successfully closed several hundred retransmission consent and programming agreements, including major programming carriage deals involving most of the nationís major television broadcast and cable companies. In addition to his work in the media industry, Mr. Bernbaum has more than three decades of negotiating and transactional experience representing domestic and multi-national corporations, companies, partnerships, and joint ventures as well as individual and corporate entrepreneurs, executives and other professionals. His clients have included Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies and have spanned a wide spectrum of industries and business ventures.

Mr. Bernbaum is an adjunct professor at St. Johnís University School of Law where he teaches courses in negotiation and alternate dispute resolution. He also is a frequent lecturer at the Paul F. Harron Graduate Program in Television Management at Drexel University.

Mr. Bernbaum is a mediator for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, the New York State Supreme Court Commercial Division in New York County, the New York State Unified Court System, the New York Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts in New York City. He also holds a Certificate in Workplace Alternative Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management from Cornell University, School of Industrial and Labor Relations, Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution.

Prior to founding his own firm in 1986, Peter Bernbaum was a partner and associate in New York City law firms.
